Abstract

This research paper highlights the significance of user-centric design in developing a knowledge-based system for the rehabilitation of facial paralysis, with a focus on Bell's palsy. The paper emphasizes the importance of involving both end-users and professionals in the design process and iterating through all phases until the evaluation findings are satisfactory. The paper also discusses the characteristics of Bell's palsy, its prevalence, and the challenges in diagnosing and rehabilitating subtle facial deviations. The paper proposes a user-centered knowledge-based system to aid in the rehabilitation of Bell's palsy and other facial paralysis conditions. The paper reviews the existing efforts made towards treating facial paralysis and details the user-centered design process that informed the proposal's creation. The paper concludes with a discussion of the implications of this research and future research directions. Overall, this paper provides insights into the user-centered design approach for developing technology-based solutions for the rehabilitation of facial paralysis, which could help improve the quality of life for those who have suffered from these conditions.
