The increasing prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has become a significant global health concern, necessitating the exploration of new and effective antimicrobial agents. Heterocyclic compounds have shown great potential as a source of novel antibacterial agents due to their diverse chemical structures and pharmacological properties. This review paper aims to provide an overview of the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and their subsequent evaluation for anti-bacterial activities. Various synthetic methods and strategies for the preparation of heterocyclic scaffolds will be discussed, along with their mechanism of action against bacterial pathogens. Furthermore, the current state of research and challenges faced in developing heterocyclic compounds as antimicrobial agents will be critically analyzed.
