Abstract

This paper examines the history and impact of feminist movements in Assam, a state in Northeast India. The paper provides a historical context for the feminist movements in Assam, highlighting the contributions of early feminist figures and their efforts towards promoting gender equality. It also focuses on the specific issue of dowry and domestic violence, and the feminist response to these issues. The paper analyzes the impact of feminist movements on Assamese society, including the increased participation of women in politics and the workforce. It also examines the challenges and limitations faced by feminist movements in Assam, such as the lack of resources and support, as well as resistance from patriarchal structures. Through a review of literature and research on feminist movements in Assam, this paper aims to highlight the importance of such movements in advancing gender equality and creating a more inclusive society. The paper concludes by discussing the ongoing challenges and opportunities for feminist movements in Assam, and the potential for continued progress towards gender equality.
