A Rare Presentation Of Panserositis Presenting As Meigs Syndrome

Abstract

Background: Peritonitis is an established term for an infectious inflammation of the peritoneum, while serositis generally refers to an
inorganic inflammation of the serous cavity containing the peritoneum. However panserositis is uncommon to manifest as Meigs
syndrome. However, this syndrome can be suspected in the presence of ascites, in the presence of very high levels of basal pleural
effusion, serum CA-125. The mechanism of ascites in Meigs syndrome is theoretical. The peritoneal surface stimulation of solid ovarian
tumors in Meigs syndrome can stimulate the production of peritoneal fluid.
Methods: Fifty years old female, previously healthy came to the emergency department with history of breathing discomfort. She is a
known case of systemic hypertension for 13 years and on medications
Results: This paper is a about a rare scenario of panserositis and also with a focus on meigs syndrome. Tumor makers were sent along
with ultrasound abdomen and HRCT chest showing elevated CA-125, ascites and pleural effusion respectively.
Conclusion: Additional screenings should be considered in elderly individuals as a preventive step if reports of significant adverse
events in elderly continue.
