The remarkable advancement in nanotechnology in recent times has led to amazing innovations in different scientific fields. It is found to have potential applications in all kinds of nano-ranged metamaterials. It can change the physiochemical properties of these nano-ranged metamaterials including remarkable structural and surface changes. Nanotechnology is changing the world of medical science as well. It is found to have a profound effect in the pharmaceuticals as well. With an aim to perfect and sustained delivery of drugs, nanocarriers could be used to incorporate the drugs. Nanoparticles when used as the carrier of drugs offer several advantages. It improves drug efficacy as well as decrease the side-effects drastically. Nanoparticles can deliver drugs to specific tissues and make controlled release feasible. This targeted dug delivery can decrease the drug toxicity. With more targeted applications of drugs, patients may need lower doses. Nanotechnology is beneficial in the treatments of AIDS, cancer, heart blockage, brain stroke, and many other diseases. In disease diagnosis also nanotechnology more efficacy.
In this review, nanocarriers such as liposomes, dendrimers, solid nanoparticles, and polymeric nanoparticles are discussed in detail. Moreover, the characteristics of mesoporous silica nanoparticles, virus like nanoparticles, polymeric micelles, and carbon nanotubes are also reviewed. This review further covers the most advanced trends of nano-drug delivery system.
