Abstract

The daily management of diabetes mellitus is burdensome and costly and if uncontrolled, it may lead to severe long term macro and micro vascular complications. According to American Diabetes Association (ADA), An average, people with diagnosed diabetes have medical expenditures approximately 2.3 times higher than what expenditures would be in the absence of diabetes. The research findings associated with diabetes imply that the indirect cost and a direct cost inference of diabetes isseveral fold globally. The direct costs of having diabetes are associated with both medical as well as non-medical expenditures, namely the stress on the individual and the household. The indirect costs of lost productivity are those that affect society and the government. The number of vascular complications is correlated with an increase in the yearly direct and indirect healthcare costs per patient. Diabetes is recognized as a serious chronic pandemic illness that doesn't regard any ethnic or monetary basis. There is a paucity of research on the price of diabetes in India. The purpose of the study is to gather information about the price of diabetes in India from the literature. A wide range of sources, including ACADEMIA, PubMed, NCBI, EBSCO, ProQuest, Google Scholar, Springer, JSTOR, and Scopus, were examined. Only studies that are accessible in the English language, listed in ABDC, ProQuest, EBSCO, Scopus, as well as peer-reviewed journals are part of the eligibility criteria.  The current study showed that diabetes places a significant financial burden on people and households. In order to lessen the impact of diabetes, the study suggested that awareness campaigns on the disease and its risk factors be organized.
