Knowledge And Attitude About Rubber Dam Usage In Undergraduate Students: An Original Research
Background: Rubber dam usage is an important technique in dentistry that involves placing a rubber dam sheet over the teeth to isolate them from the rest of the oral cavity. This technique has several benefits, including improved visibility, moisture control, and patient safety. Therefore, it is essential for undergraduate dental students to learn about rubber dam usage and develop a positive attitude towards it.
Aim: This study aims to assess the knowledge and attitude towards usage of rubber dam among undergraduate dental students
Materials methods: A structured questionnaire based analysis was performed among different academic levels of undergraduate students at( ). The questionnaire comprised of both open-and- close-ended questions. A bar graph and pie chart was used as statistical analysis to represent the result.
Result: Total of 300 valid responses were received (100 (66.67%) male and 200 (33.33%) female). The overall average likert score for knowledge about rubber dam among dental students was 3.5. The overall average likert score for questionnaire items assessing attitude of dental students about rubber dam was 4.0. The respective overall average score for male and female dental students for their attitude towards rubber dam was 3.4 and 4.3, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that dental students possess enough knowledge and training about the usage of rubber dam. However, their attitude and practice regarding the consistent use of rubber dam need to be improved through proper motivation. Conducting future research with a larger sample size and taking patients' feedback on the use of rubber dam into consideration could be beneficial in this regard.
