Abstract

Family-owned enterprises contribute a significant portion of India’s economic growth. These entities have survived over decades and act as indicators of economic growth. In view of this economic significance, the present study examines the financial health of listed family-owned or controlled companies included in the Nifty 50 index. The objective is to examine their financial soundness as per Altman’s model of predicting corporate distress. The study reveals that Nifty 50 included companies which are family owned are financially robust and are unlikely to be sick in the ensuring future, except for a few companies.
