Vitiligo is an acquired, autoimmune depigmenting disorder characterized by total absence of melanocytes. Vitiligo is a multifactorial disorder characterized by the loss of functional melanocytes. Multiple mechanisms have been proposed for melanocyte destruction in vitiligo. Since a causative treatment is not available, current treatment modalities are directed towards stopping the progression of vitiligo and achieving repigmentation in order to repair the morphology and functional deficiencies of the depigmented skin areas. Current repigmentation therapies include corticosteroids, topical immunomodulators, phototherapy, surgery and depigmentation of normally pigmented skin. Surgical procedures can be used in patients with SV and other localized types, or after medical options have failed. This study aimed to review the different modalities in treatment of Vitiligo.
