Fabrication And Characterization Of Silymarin Loaded Mesoporous Silica System

The object of the present work was to fabricate and characterize Silymarin (SM) loaded mesoporous silica Santa Barbara Amorphous-15 (SBA-15) to improve dissolution of SM. . Silymarin (SM) belongs to Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS)-Class II drug with low solubility and high permeability. The SBA-15 template was synthesized in acidic condition and drug was loaded by solvent evaporation method. The SBA-15 template and SM loaded SBA-15 system were characterized by FT-IR, Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction and Mercury Porosimetry. Dissolution profile of SM loaded in SBA-15 exhibited better release (81%) as compared to crystalline drug SM (39%) in 180 minutes.
