"Blank" is an important expression technique in Chinese traditional art, which is widely used in literature, painting, calligraphy, drama, shadow play, and other fields. The Spring and Autumn Periods in China's early history are where the idea came from. But in fact, the "blank" artistic technique is also often used in the field of music. That is, to use musical rests well so that the sounds fit together and sound good together. The researchers found that the expression technique of blank space contains rich aesthetic implications of Chinese classical aesthetics, which is a commonly used expression technique in Chinese art. However, there are only a few research on this technique in Chinese piano works. This paper will analyze it from the main difference in the form of "blank space". The "blank" in music is mainly divided into expressive blank and hidden blank in form. The hidden blank is mainly expressed as picture description, real-sound virtual performance, the expression of the charm between the phrases and so on. This article will take Chinese piano performances as an example to analyze the application of the "blank" artistic technique in piano works. This article explains how the beauty of oriental silence in piano performance and the beauty of Western piano instruments can be combined in a clever way by looking at the main types, expression techniques, and main functions of "blank" in piano performance from three different aspects: types, techniques, and functions, in order to understand the aesthetic meaning of Chinese classical aesthetics in music, to cause more scholars to pay more theoretical research and practical attention to this technique, and to fill the academic gap.
