Aim and background: In the present study was investigate that to compare the efficacy and safety of Glycolic acid peel with Trichloro Acetic acid peel on epidermal melisma. Melasma is a acquired hepermelanosis with a chronic course and often very refractory to the treatment. Many treatment options were available but none is satisfactory. Materials and Methods: This study is a randomized prospective study. Patients were then randomly allotted into 2 groups. 70% Glycolic acid peel was applied to the patients allocated in Group-A and 35% TCA peel was applied to the patients allocated in Group B then results were recorded with calculation of MASI score. Result: Peak incidence of melasma was seen between age groups 31-40 years. The mean MASI score after 4th sitting of subjects in group A (glycolic acid 70%) was 4.69 ± 1.92 and it was 5.72 ± 2.45 in group B (TCA 35%). The difference in the MASI score after 4th sitting between the two groups was statistically not significant (P value 0.076). Conclusion: Melasma was seen more commonly in age group between 30-40years with female predominance. Both peels showed a significant reduction of MASI scores but in terms of comparison of therapeutic efficacy with each other, there is no statistical significance.
