Increased use of fossil fuels for the need of power production has led to the extensive development of porous media, which leads to its growing interest in petrochemical and power generation studies. Due to the lean flammability limit, better emission characteristics, higher energy density and strong radiation emission PMC is gaining more attention among researchers. Efforts were undertaken to solve the fundamental concerns associated with porous media for combustion. Thermal coupling between the flame and the combustor geometry plays a decisive role in determining the combustion process, such as flammability limitations, flame stability regimes, temperature, speed of the flame etc. In this review paper, a better understanding and evolution of porous combustors is studied, focusing more on the materials, fuels and recent applications in the PMC technique.
