Abstract

Surgical wounds in normal and healthy individuals heal through an orderly sequence of physiologic events that include inflammation, epithelialization, fibroplasia, and maturation. Factors affecting the abdominal wall wound healing are numerous and relating to the characteristics of the patient, their co-morbidities, underlying pathology and method of surgical treatment1. Mechanical failure or failure of wound healing at the surgical site can lead to disruption of the wound closure.
