Abstract

The study was a prospective, randomized, cohort study conducted on 50 parturients undergoing LSCS, The study was performed to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of 30 ml of 0.375% Ropivacaine and 30 ml of 0.25 % Bupivacaine in Transversus Abdominis Plane Block for Post Operative Analgesia Following Lower Segment Caesarean Section. The study included Pregnant women more than 18 years old posted for elective/emergency caesarean section in MMMC&H, Solan. The TAP block was given using 23 Gauge Quincke’s needle and identifying by landmark technique. Postoperatively, rescue analgesia was provided for a VAS >3. The rescue analgesic used was inj Tramadol. Result was analyzed using Statistical Package Mini-Tab version 17.0 for final analysis. Mean comparison between the groups was done using student unpaired ‘t’ test. Both the groups were comparable in demographic data.  The post-operative VAS score was comparable in both the groups (P>0.05). The requirement of rescue analgesia in the postoperative period was similar in both the groups. There were no significant side effects in any group. We found that 0.25% Bupivacaine and 0.375% Ropivacaine provide comparable analgesia in TAP block for Post Operative Analgesia following Lower Segment Caesarean Section.
