Abstract

Establishing the identity of a person- living or dead, has always been a challenging task. Any evidence which can help establish the identity should be explored thoroughly. Knowledge of morphology and genetics of the dentition along with past treatment records give valuable information. Time and again, forensic odontology has played a vital role when more conventional aids of forensic science have failed to give a positive identification. This is because teeth are able to withstand environmental stresses and do not degrade easily. Materials used for filling the canals of roots have also shown durability in adverse conditions and increase the variations that can help in identification. This article aims to explore the various ways the field of endodontics and root filling materials can aid in forensic identification.
