Abstract

A numerical investigation of flow over a transversely oscillating circular cylinder at a low Reynolds number (75 ≤ Re ≤ 175) is conferred in this paper. The open source CFD software, OpenFOAM is used to simulate the flow. The cylinder was made to oscillate transversely with frequency ratios ranging from 0.8 to 1.2 for different Reynolds numbers. Here, the frequency ratio (fr) is the ratio of external excitation frequency (fe) to that of Strouhal frequency (fo). For all cases, the oscillation amplitude was constant and equal to 0.4. The Strouhal number and the aerodynamic coefficients were calculated for different frequency ratios and Reynolds numbers.
