Utilization of Plants as a medicinal source is increased in the past centuries. At the present time, scientists have understood their worth as a foundation of complimentary or new therapeutic products. Root of Cordia dichotoma were collected from karjat, Dist- Raigad, Maharashtra. The air-dried root of Cordia dichotoma belonging to family Boraginaceae powder was subjected to successive hot continuous extraction (soxhlet) with petroleum ether, ethanol Additional batch of pulverized drug was macerated with chloroform-water I.P. The obtained extracts were undergoing to chemical investigation. Antiradical activity of seed extract was evaluated by measuring scavenging activity on the 2, 2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ABTS (2, 2’- azinobis-3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical cation assay. Percentage of total ash, acid-insoluble ash, water soluble ash, sulphated ash and loss on drying were calculated. Each extract was tested for the presence of phytoconstituents, viz., carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, steroids, terpenoids, glycosides, tannins, alkaloids and flavonoids. It was observed that free radicals were scavenged by the extract in a concentration dependent manner. The present study provides the useful information about antioxidant properties and phytochemical contents of Cordia dichotoma. This may be helpful in preventing or slowing the progress of diseases involved as a result of oxidative stress
