Abstract

Many herbal medicines have the great source of wild plants are supplied by traders to the pharmacies. Sometimes the true medicinal plant is replaced by traders. This practice may be intentionally or unknowingly. It is helpful to stop adulteration and malpractice due to either shortage of required medicinal plant or lack of knowledge. Adulterant can be identified with the help of peculiar characters of plants belongs to biochemical profiling, micro-macro morphological characters. Micromorphological studies showed stomatal index 11-16, number of stomata/mm2 on upper epidermis was 75-120 and on lower epidermis was 152-215. The stomatal size was found 23-28µ at lower side and 64-79µ on upper side. Vein islet number were 5-9, vein termination number 14-25 ± 4. Trichomes density on upper epidermis was 4.6-7.2 and on lower epidermis was 4.8-8.0.  In qualitative estimation glycosides did not show any sign, where flavonoids, starch and saponins were in significant amount. Alkaloidal tests showed that the sufficient amount is present in powdered material. About 0.10 % alkaloids were found during the set experiments in leaves. total ash- 12.00 % ± 0.3, acid insoluble ash 04.00 % ± 0.5, water soluble extractives 22.30 % ± 1.7, alcohol soluble extractives 14.07 % ± 2.0, humidity 05.22 % ± 4.0. The plant has a great scope in healthcare therefore it has great share in Ayurvedic medicinal products. It required the exact profiling keys to identify the plant and proper utilization.
